Cashmere products are crafted from natural fibers, which makes them inherently delicate. This fragile nature requires special attention during cleaning and storage to preserve their quality. Without proper care, issues such as pilling or lint accumulation may occur.
Cleaning Cashmere:
Dry cleaning is the recommended method for maintaining cashmere products. However, if you prefer to wash them at home, we strongly advise following the steps below:
Begin by filling a clean container with lukewarm water and adding a suitable detergent. You may use either a mild, bleach-free detergent designed for delicate garments or a gentle shampoo. Mix thoroughly until a rich lather forms.
Submerge the cashmere product into the lathered water and gently press or squeeze it for approximately two minutes. Avoid rubbing or twisting, as this can damage the fibers.
After two minutes, rinse thoroughly with clean water, continuing to use a gentle squeezing motion until all detergent is removed.
Once rinsed, gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Lay the item flat on a clean towel and blot out remaining moisture with another towel or absorbent paper. Flip the item and repeat the process on the reverse side. Never hang cashmere to dry.
Avoid using a dryer or exposing the item to direct sunlight. After the item has completely dried, fold and store it neatly.
If ironing is necessary, always use a low heat setting with steam.
Preventing Pilling:
Pilling refers to the formation of small fiber balls on the surface of cashmere garments. While it is a natural and unavoidable occurrence to some extent, proper care can significantly reduce it. Dry cleaning or hand-washing your cashmere items according to the guidelines above will help minimize pilling.
Rubbing or twisting cashmere during washing can damage the fibers and increase pilling. Therefore, gentle handling is essential. Despite best efforts, some pilling may still occur. In such cases, carefully remove the pills by hand and lightly press the item using low heat and steam.
